During a slow day at a trade show for our family's glass company at the Washington Convention Center, my dad and I went to watch trains for a few hours at Union Station while my mom watched the booth at the trade show. We enjoyed watching the constant activity from two different vantage points during the second half of a Monday rush hour. Enjoy the pictures and videos! -Charlie

On January 15th, while driving to Washington DC for a trade show with our family's glass company, my parents and I stopped at the train station in Point of Rocks, Maryland. The quaint station is nestled on the banks of the Potomac River with the main building resting inside of the three legs of a railroad track wye. Although the main building, built in 1873 by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, is no longer used by passengers, MARC commuter trains still stop here, using a newer passenger shelter built across the tracks. I had read that Radio Shack was in trouble and my personal experience in their stores seemed to confirm this. A lot of this is a sign of the times - our "throw away" society doesn't fix or repair anything, kids don't build the projects on circuit boards that I did when I was a boy, and today's youth has their nose buried in video games. It seems that in recent years their focus shifted from electronics parts to radio-controlled cars and helicopters, phones and accessories, and batteries. However, I stopped there last night to buy a cable and was greeted by "Store Closing" signs. It must have happened fast - the list of stores that were closing was only released yesterday! I will miss the store; it was five minutes away and wonderfully convenient to buy a fuse, solder, wire or switches.
